Last week I was the production assistant for the Rachael Ray show's episode called "Tough Love Teacher" set to air May 3, 2010. It was an amazing experience and I really got to do and learn a lot.
My first day, Saturday the 27th, was on my own picking up some cabinets from Lowe's in South Philly. I had to rent a UHAUL truck and I got my friend Joe Coleman to help me out. We delivered the cabinets to the school district so they could stain them for installation the following week.
That Monday I took a train up to NYC and drove the show's panel van down full of the Rachael Ray cookware that was being donated to the school down to Philly.
Tuesday started the action with the big assembly at school where the teacher learned she was getting a new kitchen. I helped set up lockdown cameras, ran around with the food, and helped tear the place apart.
Wednesday and Thursday were full of re-doing the rooms, with a rather light production staff. I helped with craft services, driving to pick up VIPs and materials from Lowe's (all 6 of them that I had to run to). I also had the opportunity to shoot some B-Roll (thank you John Filimon) and help out with the actual construction.
The following Monday was the "reveal" day and I got to help out where I could amidst the chaos.
Overall it was a fantastic experience and I made some great friends, great connections, and a great product.
